So I’ve noticed that the Los Angeles Dodgers have both Russ and Ramon Ortiz on their 25-man roster. Don’t know whom I’m talking about? Well, I’ll tell you.
Russ Ortiz is the former ace of the San Francisco Giants. From 1999 until 2004, he won 99 games, including 21 in 2003 for the Braves. That’s 16.5 wins per season. Pretty amazing, right? Well, I’ll tell you one thing. He has won exactly 14 games since. 14 games in 6 years, including his hand full of outings thus far in 2010. That’s barely over 2 wins per season. Granted, he spent a lot of that time injured or sucking. Like in 2006 when he pitched for 2 teams, won 0 games and lost 8. His ERA was 8.14. Then he missed all of 2008 before catching on with the terrible Astros last year and going 3-6. Sadly, he’s the less ridiculous of the 2 Ortizes.
