College Basketball Breakdown: Pre-season Top 25, Part 1

College_Basketball_Preseason_Top25_Part1_570x300

Big League Clew kicks off our week with part 1 of his College Basketball Top 25 preview!

As you know folks, the NCAA committee has officially released their pre-season top 25 for men’s college basketball. Now I’ve said to many of my friends and co-workers over at Jobu’s Rum HQ that the pre-season college basketball rankings mean nothing because of many reasons. First of all, it’s too early in the season to know which teams are going to contend for the National title. Some teams are ranked because they made it deep in the NCAA tournament and deserved to be ranked, and of course there is the unpredictability of college basketball, where any team can upset anyone on any given day (yes I am referring to any given Sunday). Alright enough of this. I am going to break the rankings down anyways, because otherwise I would have nothing to talk about. So over the next few days get your self situated and prepared for the awesomeness that is college basketball!!

Lessons Rex Can Learn From Bill

Jerry Ballgame is back this week. He discusses Rex Ryan and Bill Belichick, and their different styles when it comes to dealing with the media.

Anyone with a television set that has cable and a few sports channels knows for themselves that Rex Ryan and Bill Belichick are about as different in personalities as you can get. Other than an expertise at the devising and implementing of defensive schemes, you’d be hard pressed to come up with anything else they have in common. You’d be forgiven for forgetting that they both had very strong fraternal links to the gridiron. Most fans are aware that Buddy Ryan was a defensive innovator in his own right, creating the 4-6 defense, but may not know that Steve Belichick was a long time college coach and scout. (Legend has it that a young Billy B. was helping his dad break down game film at 10 years old!)

Let’s All Settle Down About Tim Tebow

Lets_All_Relax_About_Tim_Tebow_2Point_570x300

Jobu weighs in on the man who has the lips of every news reporter in America puckered squarely on his cheeks…

From the title of this piece, and the introduction, you can probably tell what the tone of the rest of this post is going to be. For those of you who didn’t watch football this weekend, one of the biggest stories in the NFL was Tim Tebow’s 18 point comeback against the Dolphins on Sunday afternoon. Apparently, if you listen to mainstream media, one fourth quarter comeback makes you the next great Quarterback in the NFL… You’d think no one had ever led the Broncos on a last minute drive to victory before…

Get to Know a Uruguayan: Álvaro Fernández

SoundersRapids

Looks like it’s that time again, Jobu introduces you to another of his countrymen!

We haven’t done this in about a month, so I figured it was time to spread some more of my culture on your breakfast toast (if that sounds dirty to you, the problem is you, not the words). As usual, the Uruguayan in question today is a fútbol player. Fortunately for you guys, it’s someone who is actually accessible to American fans as well. His name is Álvaro Fernández, but you Seattle Sounders fans might know him like I do, as “Flaco.” Flaco (nicknamed that because he’s pretty tall and skinny) is important to know, because he currently tops the Castrol Index, which is used to determine the best overall player in the MLS. How about that?

The Andrew Luck Sweepstakes

Andrew Luck

Big League Clew introduces you to one of the top prospects coming into this year’s NFL draft, with a little help from Jobu.

Alright football fans, we’re halfway through the college football season and entering the “2nd quarter” of the NFL season. I decided to take a different approach to discussing some college players that are already being touted by NFL scouts as top prospects. Basically, I will be breaking down some of the conversations that are already being held throughout the NCAA and NFL. For starters, we will look at the Quarterback out of Stanford University, Andrew Luck.
