Very Random Observations and Thoughts From the Hub of the Universe
Weekly Shots of Rum: 12/19/11 – 12/25/11
After a nice little break for the Holidays, Jobu is back with a round of shots!
Hello fans. Please accept our most sincere apologies for not having a post up yet this week, but even Jobu needs a refill every once in a while (right, Harris?). But enough cleverly inserted Major League quotes, let’s get to it. In this week’s shots we’re going to learn a little bit more about the living joke I like to call the New York Mets, a Japanese import causing a great stir, the tragic story of Brian Cashman’s apparent kidnapping, the latest idiocy from Fat Rex from Jersey and a problem plaguing Europe, as we cover some baseball, football and even it’s European cousin, fútbol. Drink up, bitches… it’s the holidays!
Mid Major Conference Road Trip: Mid-Major Dominance
Big League Clew’s Road Trip Continues! This week he traveled from South Dakota all the way to Tennessee to take a look at two more Mid-Major contenders.

My first stop this week was in the prairies of South Dakota, where I took closer look at the South Dakota State Jack Rabbits.

As I mentioned in this week’s Shots of Rum, the Red Sox recently signed Kelly Shoppach to a major league contract. It appears that they have the former Tampa Bay Ray slotted as their backup catcher for 2012. Since they already have Jarrod Saltalamacchia installed as the starting backstop, and youngster Jeff Lavarnway knocking on the door with his 30+ home run potential, it is safe to say that Jason Varitek might have seen his last game as a Red Sox. He now joins the much talked about (at least on this site) Jorge Posada as yet another aging catcher looking to find a place to play for one more year. This raises an interesting question. Both of these men spent their entire careers becoming fan favorites and icons for their respective teams, so who will walk away from the game with the strongest legacy?
