Jobu is Going on Vacation

Jobu_takes_a_vacation_570x300

Hello loyal readers

It is with a little bit of sadness (and control freak anxiety) that I announce that I will be on vacation starting Saturday (6/30). I’ll be entering enemy territory, as my vacation will take me to Cape Cod, where I will be spending a week fishing, playing golf, eating, drinking, laying in the sun and sneaking looks at my fantasy baseball team while my girlfriend isn’t looking.

We have some content lined up, as our staff has done a great job of stockpiling content so that I don’t have to write anything while I lay around the Cape, but it will probably be a pretty slow week for the blog. I will most likely not be doing series reviews for the upcoming matchups against the White Sox, and Rays and Red Sox, although, if I don’t write them on my vacation, expect some kind of all encompassing update post. I might also try to get to some kind of local sports something while I’m there, so maybe I’ll come back with some goodies anyway. Also, there’s always twitter!

Anywho, I hope all of you enjoy your July 4th week. Go America!

Yankees Series Review: Indian Summer

Frank Franklin II/AP

The Yankees opened up a three game set with the Cleveland Indians on Monday. Coming off a big series win over the Mets (again), the Yankees were looking to build on that momentum against the Indians, who are currently battling the Chicago White Sox for first place in the AL Central. Old Jobu has always had a soft spot for the Indians (I played on a little league team named the Indians, and there’s the whole Jobu identity/Major League connection as well), but I was hoping the Yankees could take advantage of this somewhat overachieving bunch and slap them around for a few games. In the end, the Yankees got their Andrew Jackson on and swept the Indians away (I Keeeeeeeeeeed! Also, I still find it a bit ridiculous that they’re still named the Indians in 2012 and no one has sued).

Congratulations to Lebron

Jobu gives credit where credit is due.

Before I start this post, let me assuage all the haters out there. I am not… I repeat… I am NOT jumping on the Lebron James bandwagon. He’s still a douche, he’s still absurd and I still want him to lose every time out. I’m just not as angry when he wins anymore, and it’s because of his performance in these playoffs.

‘YOUK’ MOVES ON: A ‘TOXIC’ DUMPING OR JUST THE RIGHT TIME?

Kevin_Youkilis_Trade_Goodbye_570x300

Jerry and Jobu discuss the Kevin Youkilis trade.

As sad as it is to see the moving on of a player who always gave it everything he had, played the game with passion, and contributed significantly to his adopted city, it was unquestionably time for Kevin Youkilis to move on. I wrote about this very possibilty last Fall,  in my review of the rather forgetable 2011 Red Sox season. I pointed out that, although 2011 had been a respectable year for him, with 17 homeruns and 80 RBI’s, he was often injured and played in just 120 games. This was following a year which saw him in only 1o2 contests. You’ll have to go back to 2009, when he drove in 94 and hit 27 homeruns to find his last All-Star caliber season. (Even then he missed 16 games.) The 6’1″, 220 pound body of his just doesn’t seem to be able to sustain his all out style of play, and at 33 years of age, it’s not likely to get any easier.
