Yankees Series Review: Sox Get One Back

Yankees_Series_Review_RedSox3_Game2_Celebration_570x300

Jobu reviews the Yankees series at home against the hated Boston Red Sox.

I wasn’t sure what to expect this series. In truth, I’m a little nervous about a feeling I got coming into these three games. That feeling was comfort. The Red Sox simply don’t scare me as a Yankees fan. My brother and I attended game one, and we remarked on the feeling that, once the Yankees got ahead… the Sox weren’t going to come back. I’m not sure if this makes sense to anyone outside of these two teams, but no Yankees/Red Sox game is ever supposed to be easy. Even if one of the teams goes up big, you know the other team is always going to come back. With the Sox struggling so mightily this season, I just don’t get that feeling anymore. This makes me a little nervous because, overconfidence is the biggest curse a fan can ever levy on his team… In the end the Sox proved that they might not be as deflated as I thought, with a huge series win in New York.

CFL Week Four Review: The NBC TV Deal

CFL_Week_Four_Review_NBCSPORTS_570x300

Don Cherry’s Love Child reviews week four of the CFL season, as well as the new momentous TV deal signed by the league.

It’s official. The CFL has cut a deal with the NBC Sports Network to air live CFL games this season! Beginning in late August the network will air nine live regular season games. In addition, all Playoff Games and the 100th Grey Cup game from Toronto will be shown on NBC Sports as well. For the last two seasons, CFL Games have been shown both live and on tape delay on the NFL Network. The two parties did not come to an agreement on carriage of games for this year, and this left the CFL scrambling to find another American provider (in Canada every game airs live on TSN). Every game will also still be shown live online on espn3.com.

Collateral Damage: Penn State Players Suffer for the Crimes of their “Leaders”

Penn State Players Football

Jobu wraps up the weekend Penn State coverage with his own thoughts.

I tend to be a rational person, so I see both sides to the debate about whether or not the sanctions levied against Penn State were fair. On the one hand I feel for the student athletes who are committed to Penn State for next season. Many of them gathered just after the NCAA ruling to state their loyalty to the university (pictured above). If only their coach and athletic director had been half as brave, they wouldn’t find themselves caught in the middle of this scandal.  They really should feel duped by Paterno and the Penn State system. When they committed to play football for the Nittany Lions, they were coming to play for a competitive team with a chance to win a national championship every season. Now what do they do?

Women’s Gymnastics: Who Is Going to Win the Team Gold?

Olympics_Preview_ Viktoria_Komova_570x300

Hockey Girl is back, but this time she’s talking Olympics! She previews the women’s gymnastics event.

I’ve been a sucker for gymnastics since I was a little girl. Growing up, two of my closest friends were sisters who were heavily involved in the sport (one now coaches part-time). I can still name every member of the 1988 team, and was heartbroken when a freak deduction cost them a medal (thanks a lot, Rhonda Faehn). I openly cried when they won team gold in Atlanta, and was supremely pissed when mistakes cost them the gold in Beijing (yeah, I’m looking at you, Alicia Sacramone).

So, of course, I am insanely excited about what’s about to unfold at the 2012 Olympics. From supposed favorites to teams just hoping they don’t implode in front of a global audience, here are a few of the storylines (and predictions) for the team competition in London.

Legacy Erased: Thoughts on Penn State Football and the NCAA’s Sanctions

Big League Clu, our resident college football expert extraordinaire, reacts to the sanctions received by Penn State.

As everyone is aware by now, the NCAA has made an official ruling against the Penn State Football program in the Joe Paterno/Jerry Sandusky scandal that has rocked Happy Valley to its foundations. So here’s my take on what has transpired this week…
